No Love Potions, Endless Purses, or Other Entertainment

Ever since his girlfriend left town to deal with her newly acquired taste for blood, Harry Dresden has been down and out in Chicago. He can't pay his rent. He's alienating his friends. He can't even recall the last time he took a shower.

The only professional wizard in the phone book has become a desperate man.

And just when it seems things can't get any worse, in saunters the Winter Queen of Faerie. She has an offer Harry can't refuse if he wants to free himself of the supernatural hold his faerie godmother has over him--and hopefully end his run of bad luck. All he has to do is find out who murdered the Summer Queen's right-hand man, the Summer Knight, and clear the Winter Queen's name.

It seems simple enough, but Harry knows better than to get caught in the middle of faerie politics. Until he finds out that the fate of the entire world rests on his solving this case. No pressure or anything...

Here is a book that is an example of an excellent story teller. Jim takes us on a trip into a world of beauty and mystery that keeps you asking all the right questions until the very end.

Enter, the White Counsel. This group of wizards are not void of backstage politics, nor influence. They have moved against Harry and the only thing that will save them is getting the Winter Queen of the Fae to allow safe passage through the Never Never so the war with the Red Court will be balanced.

Of course the Winter Queen makes a visit to Harry and offers him a deal. It seems that his Fairy Grandmother sold his debt to her. So, he now has to do three tasks for her to absolve all debts that he might have with the Fae.

Harry in this book is a mess. The woman he loves is turning into a vampire and he is spending every waking moment trying to find a way cure her.

This book centers around the first request. The Queen requests him to find a murder. Someone has killed the Summer Knight and risks throwing the balance of the Fae world, possibly destroying the mortal realm.

We get an inside look into the Fae and how the hierarchy of the Summer and Winter Courts and how politics is a part of the supernatural and preternatural worlds.

We see so much. Especially, some of Harry's past is revealed. There is even a visitor from his past. This person is someone that was very dear to Harry's heart.

Most importantly, there is no cliffhanger per say, however you know that this is a series. There is no doubt that there are unanswered questions, however, you have this feeling that everything will work out.

Instead of quotes, I have some pictures here I found on the internet .
